Dog Sitting w/ Prince

So we picked up Prince for his weekend retreat at the Greyhound Spa (aka our house, also known as the zoo) last night.

Barb and Dean seem to get along no problem. They were excited to see another greyhound that could actually run around with them!

Adjusting to the house has been a bit difficult for Prince. He is the lone pup in his domain so sharing things are new to him. He is also a bit of a crier. Even when we're in the room he cries and howls. It got so bad last night that I ended up sleeping on the couch with him balled up next to me.

I think he is stating to calm down, he stopped whining for now, we shall see how the day progresses. I'm glad that I can be home all day today to make sure he is adjusting.

TADA

Okay so I guess i should update this once and a while.

So

What's been going on...

Umm

Barb and Dean are great. Loving the yard and all the attention. They both battled some health issues early this year, but seem to have rebounded nicely.

Dean's personality has really started to shine through. When we first got him he was shy and didn't seem to care about us that much. Now he is so needy and affectionate.

However with the needy behavior comes the whining and howling. He cries if we go to take a nap or leave him for any period of time.

We are dog-sitting another greyhound starting tonight. We are watching Prince for the weekend. Should be interesting. Dean isn't too much into playing, but Barb is dying for a playmate. Prince seems to be more energetic and engaging than Dean. We shall see how they all interact.

Maybe i'll throw a pic up if you're lucky

Spy Operation

I'm spying on my Barb and Dean today ...

We're not sure who is the culpret in the household destruction recently. I know Barb has had her hand (paw) in it, but I'm not convinced Dean is innocent as well.

I set up my camera and laptop in the living room. All day it will be taking a picture every 30 seconds. I will turn it into a short time lapse video to see who is the most destructive.

Watch it be that today is the only day in the past week that they dont actually do anything :)

Oh look! An Update!!!

I know I know

I haven't been updating this as much as I would have like (or at all really).

I guess I left this alone as more of a memorial than a blog. It didn't seem right to me to start posting pictures and stories like Chance was never here. I guess that seems a little selfish now. I still catch myself thinking about him. Things around the house remind me of him. The old food bowls, the leftover cans of dog food etc... I know he is in a better place now though.

Anyways, back to more happier posts :)

Barb has decided that she no longer wants to be a dog, and has taken up the roll of household garbage disposal.

No we know that we can't leave shoes lying about (especially heals, dean LOVES them) so we've been good about picking up stray shoes. Well Barb decided it was no longer fun to chew on the LOADS of toys we have for her. First off she found the bathroom trash. It started with a few pieces of crumpled paper, or a chewed cardboard tube. It started getting a little more agressive, one day we found a long sheet of toilet paper going from the roll in the bathroom all the way into the living room (in one big piece). She also started pulling out everything in the trash. My concern was that I use that trash can to toss away paper towels that we've used for cleaning the bathroom, and they are covered in cleaning agents. So we decided to leave the bathroom door closed during the day.

She is a clever little girl...

After finding the bathroom door shut she moved on to big and better places ... the office. Liz came home to find my camera bag on the floor and my metal mem card holder in Barb's bed. The chew the hell out of it. Thankfully she didn't manage to open the case and get to the memory cards. Dean also joined in on the fun, we found a partially chewed battery in his bed (!)

Step two, baby gate the office. The office doesn't have a door so we put up a baby gate to keep them out.

We found out though, that wouldn't stop her.

Yesterday Liz came home to find the tv remote chewed to hell. She ripped out the LED's and the plastic cover was shredded. We knew it was her, because just after we got home she promptly threw up.

I think she feels neglected. With our schedules we are working and teaching lessons till about 7 each night, plus with band practice and all the events we've been to in the past few months, she isn't getting the attention she was accustomed to.
